Okay, so for this class we must use this etutoring thing. Fine, but guess what? It's not accessible. How the hell am I going to pass this damn course with out the oh so magical etutoring survice? I probably won't:

And of course the college faculty doesn't get it or give a rat's ass. I went to an elementary school once that was like that.

I've never encountered a school like that, much less a college. Have you tried talking with a dean or someone higher up? I don't see how they can't understand that something simply won't work with your software. The concept isn't that difficult to grasp, even if you don't understand the exact reason why it's happening. Have you considered transferring? Perhaps, a new school with more understanding faculty is in order. It would also prevent similar problems with future courses. Good luck in any case.

Oh I will complain in a reasonable manner but they could care less!
The fact is, they have a piss poor atitude about just about anything logical.

If it is a college that gets federal funding they are breaking the disability law, Section 504 in fact, and it is a serious thing.
You should be able to contact the local blind or disability advocates in the area and get them involved.
A college funded in whole or even in part by federal money must make reasonable accomodation for making its class material accessible, there are no two ways, ifs or buts aout that.
It'll take fighting and you might have to get some organization involved, but do not stand back on this.
You can try AFB as a start, or if the school has a disability office, although I guess you must've tried that already and they arenot exactly helping.

as much as I'm not a fan of them, I'd recommend the NFB. When they get mad things get done. At the very least, it will be all over the net and maybe in a few papers. I'm sure the college wouldn't like that too much. *smile*

Oh I will advocate...oh yes indeed.

Post 8 by forereel (Just posting.) on Sunday, 07-Mar-2010 16:57:03

So cheat? Lol. In college you learn 3 things I find. 1. How to deal with people. 2. How to get things done if you can't get them done the regular method. 3. How to get by. You need it, you have taken your complaint to the proper people, so you get a sighted friend and you get it done. Bad I know, but. The NFB and all these other suggestions are great, but you've only got a class period to get a something done, and they'll be slow.

If I must I must, but I will get atop that food chain and people will listen.

Post 10 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Monday, 08-Mar-2010 9:17:42

But the whole point of taking these courses is to learn. I don't think cheating will help with that. I would definitely advicate. They can't be allowed to do this.

I went into that office and I took a firm stance. They said that there's nothing they can do. Fine, up the food chain I go.

this is totally shit margorp. they can do things, they just don't want to. tis the same in the UK. i hope you get these wankers asses whipped.

Post 13 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Tuesday, 09-Mar-2010 14:18:42

I will. Things will get done and I will get what I deserve.

Post 14 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Tuesday, 09-Mar-2010 14:52:24

That's the best aditude to have, in my opinion. If you even begin to acquire the view that there really can be nothing done about it, well that's when people get to start walking all over you. It's a shame that you have to put up such a fight when most of the other people in your class don't have to, but, well, you do what you have to do in these types of situations.

Post 15 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Tuesday, 09-Mar-2010 17:26:28

Yes, it's not fare but I have to fight. I'm sick of beeing a door mat!

Post 16 by Perestroika (Her Swissness) on Tuesday, 09-Mar-2010 17:41:21

have you asked them to think of a way that you can access a similar resource that is accessible?
maybe if you talk to the one actually setting the work that would have some effect.

Post 17 by forereel (Just posting.) on Tuesday, 09-Mar-2010 22:48:54

Guess I shouldn't have used the word cheat, but it is sort of. You are legally intiddled to use sighted help if you can't get it done yourself, so someone to see and tell you what they see is correct in a way, gbut getting buy other wise.

Post 18 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Thursday, 11-Mar-2010 14:59:00

Well, in that case, if they're just telling you what they see, and nothing else, it might not necessarily be cheating at all.

Post 19 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Thursday, 11-Mar-2010 14:59:28

But the point is, everyone else can do the work themselves, and you should be able to do the same.

Post 20 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Thursday, 11-Mar-2010 15:17:34

They love to say "nothing we can do." They'll be sorry.

Post 21 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Wednesday, 17-Mar-2010 12:50:31

Okay so I broke down and got sighted help. I like to do things on my own but I had to do this...but trust me when I say that I will be complaining.

Post 22 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Wednesday, 17-Mar-2010 16:39:25

Well, you do what you have to do in the moment so you can pass, but definitely don't let this be the last they'll hear from you about it.

Post 23 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Wednesday, 17-Mar-2010 23:56:34

I should point out that this sighted person also had a bit of trouble so it's not just me.

Post 24 by forereel (Just posting.) on Friday, 19-Mar-2010 1:25:03

Smart. You get an A. Smile.

Post 25 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Friday, 19-Mar-2010 12:05:19

I may not get an A but I better get a grade that I deserve...I hope nobody has to use this survice. It's stupid but the stuffed shirts love it.

Post 26 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Friday, 19-Mar-2010 14:15:52

It's funny how a lot of colleges pick these services that some athority staff member thinks is the best thing since sliced bread, and makes all the students use it, when sometimes the professors don't even understand it.

Post 27 by forereel (Just posting.) on Saturday, 20-Mar-2010 0:31:44

Ah. But that is what college is about. That is the lesson I learned how to deal with silly stuff. You'll have to deal in life, so I guess you get started in college. Smile. Sometimes it's not the class, but the professors personality you must deal with, and their opinion of you.

Post 28 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Sunday, 21-Mar-2010 13:12:27

I think my professor must be constipated and he's upset that his head won't even fit up there.

Post 29 by forereel (Just posting.) on Monday, 22-Mar-2010 0:14:04

Made me laugh. You may be right. Check next class? hahaha

Post 30 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Monday, 22-Mar-2010 23:38:15

lol I hope I can really laugh at this in the future...

Post 31 by forereel (Just posting.) on Monday, 22-Mar-2010 23:58:45

You will. haha. If you don't you'll go crazy, so well lesson 2? hahaha

Post 32 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Tuesday, 23-Mar-2010 23:53:08
